StatisticsReview of Reliable Driving School

Reliable Driving School provides Washington State Department of Licensing certified Traffic Safety Education and physical skills training for the teen or adult driver and it is our goal to create a foundation of solid concepts that will lead to collision and citation free driving for LIFE.

Washington State Law (RCW 46.20.100) mandates anyone applying for a license that is under age 18 must receive 30 hours of classroom Traffic Safety Education, 6 hours of Behind the Wheel (BTW) instruction and at least 1 hour of Observation in the car, but not BTW. Reliable Driving School is licensed to provide this training.
Reliable Driving School allows and encourages students to observe several drives, because learning takes place even when not directly controlling the vehicle. Parents are encouraged to participate by observing a drive when their student is receiving instruction. Parents must recognize, however, that they are not instructing, but observing the process.

New classes begin about every five weeks. The current enrollment fee is $340.

Normal Office Hours are 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday. Classes, driving and other appointments expand or shrink these hours. There should be someone here during the summer office hours (even during drives). Stop by!

Meet the Staff
Dave

   Dave Lauderdale
is the owner and primary instructor of Reliable Driving School. He brings 25+ years of instructing the young (and old) in both the formal / traditional classroom environment and in the "hands on" world of youth sports, military aviation tactics and manufacturing everything from hi-tech telephone equipment to electric heaters and plastic products. The Drivers Ed car becomes another classroom for him to assist students in achieving a high level of performance while in a demanding environment. He is licensed and certified by WA State Department of Licensing (DOL) as a Certified Driving Instructor.

Carolea, Driving Instructor  Carolea Starke is a seven year veteran in the Driving Instruction industry.  In 2006, under the umbrella of AAA Washington, she developed and coordinated the first driver training program for physically disabled students in Washington state. She has three years of experience with special needs individuals and has put over 6000 students through Drivers Education. Carolea has a passion to help all capable individuals prepare to receive a drivers license and to become confident and proficient drivers. She is licensed and certified by WA State Department of Licensing (DOL) as a Certified Driving Instructor.

Carolea also owns and operates Transitions Driving Services, described below.
Traditional drivers education services in Washington state have not been equipped to offer the physically disabled any services. TDS fills that gap and provides an equal opportunity for all Washington's disabled students and adults to safely earn independence. Instruction is available in a vehicle equipped with hand controls for the brake and accelerator. The primary goal of TDS is to provide a safe, effective training environment designed to set the students up for success in obtaining their WA state drivers license. TDS is partnered with Reliable Driving School to offer their services to Vancouver and Clark County students and adults with disabilities. Students will be provided Behind the Wheel instruction by an experienced, certified driving instructor in a specialized vehicle with adaptive controls.
Transitions Driving Services offers for training purposes, a vehicle equipped with hand controls and a passenger side brake and mirrors. The vehicle also has a spinner knob attached to the steering wheel for one-hand operation. Transitions Driving Services offers a one hour driving evaluation for $85 and private lessons (1-1/2 hour each) for $127.50. If a student enrolls in the full Traffic Safety Education course offered by Reliable Driving School, the cost is $500 and any additional lessons would be at the rate of $55/hour.

Keith, Driving

Instructor  Keith Hiatt brings 30 years experience at United Parcel Service as a driver and On-car Supervisor, giving him the background to help new drivers develop safe habits from the beginning. These habits include maintaining a safe following distance that allows for smooth, economical speed control. Another important habit he emphasizes are "head checks", looking left, right, and left again to clear all intersections and avoid collisions with another motorist who may have failed to yield properly. He loves to help people learn basic life skills that will help them succeed. He is licensed and certified by WA State Department of Licensing (DOL) as a Certified Driving Instructor.
